Just A Thought:
I had an idea for a painting. I was thinking about sewing (material or quilting) and sowing grain (like wheat, since that is what we see here). The similarities like pushing a hole in the surface of the skin of the earth, and pushing a needle and thread through fabric either by hand or by machine. Although I thought of this a number of years ago the vision still remains for me. I hope I can make a diptych that will say the same thing.
Pierce the Surface
Make a stitch, plant a seed
Small handmade indentions,
calculated and concise
Points of contact
and intrusion
Measure the cloth
and prep the soil
See the patterns
see the pivots
Check the direction
check the depth
Hear the clicking,
see the planting
Lines we see
have a life of their own
Beautiful contours,
precisely set
Those who sew, and those who sow
People of patience,
people of faith
Planting…threads of time,
seeds of hope
Dreaming and planning,
precision with effort
Yields now are swelling,
harvest is coming,
So many small plantings
Of needle and thread
Seeds turn to seedlings
to fields of harvest
Pieces to patchwork
to flourishing patterns
The whole is now equal
to abundantly more
Than the sum of the seeds
Sown… or sewn.
