Just like the quilts he often paints, he assembles ideas and images in refreshingly new ways to create intriguing acrylic paintings that speak of things we love. He uses common everyday objects and presents them in fascinating and thought provoking compositions.
A native of Nebraska, Ron and his wife Dianne live in Chappell, Nebraska, both retired teachers. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 1971, the Nordyke’s spent over twenty years in the upholstery business. They have three grown children and eight grandchildren. They enjoy walking, traveling, family “get togethers” and camping.
In 1992 he began a new career, teaching Art in 2nd to 12th grades. He has been focusing on fine art painting, competing and showing art throughout the region in various shows and galleries consistently since 2000.
He portrays our “common heritage” by way of visual images. Many of these ideals are universal: the value of hard work and fine craft; the virtue and strength of character that comes from age; the freedom and energy of youth; the awesome regenerating power of faith; the magnificent beauty and diversity of creation; even the thoughts and emotions linked to images from our collective past.
Always looking for “connections”, similarities and metaphors in visual images he finds beauty in the juxtaposition of objects and ideas. His works evoke reflection, inquiry, inspiration and appreciation for what is truly beautiful in our world.
